Guide to Kingston Jamaica

Transportation

Picture
As the capital, Kingston is well served by an international airport, bus services, and taxis.

Air
Several major airlines fly in and out of Kingston connecting to North America, England and the Caribbean. There are also regular and charter domestic flights that travel between Kingston and Montego Bay.
For a list of airlines flying into Kingston consult the Norman Manley International Airport's web site www.nmia.aero

Bus
Major towns in Jamaica are served by a reliable, comfortable coach service, the Knutsford Express (
www.knutsfordexpress.com) that connects with Kingston. Within Kingston there is a government run bus service as well as smaller, private 30 and 12 seater buses; both the government and private buses run along specific routes along the length and breadth of the city.

Taxi
Kingston has a large number of taxi drivers plying specific designated routes - route taxis - as well as those available for private charter. There are also tourism focused transportation (JUTA, JCAL) and tour companies that can be contacted directly or through the front desk of your hotel. Taxis are not metered and different drivers will offer widely varying fares, particularly to tourists. You should be clear on the rate before getting into the taxi.
